Hegrecat BDMA (N,N-Dimethylbenzylamine, CAS: 103-83-3)

Hegrecat BDMA (N,N-Dimethylbenzylamine, CAS: 103-83-3)

Appearance: Colorless to pale yellow liquid

Key Properties:

As a tertiary amine catalyst, BDMA exhibits high reactivity. Its unique molecular structure, featuring a benzyl group attached to a dimethylamino functional group, allows it to effectively activate isocyanate groups. BDMA can accelerate the reaction between isocyanates and polyols by facilitating the nucleophilic attack of hydroxyl groups on isocyanate groups. This leads to a faster formation of urethane linkages, promoting gelation and enhancing foam stability. It also has a relatively balanced catalytic effect on both the urethane - forming reaction (between isocyanates and polyols) and the blowing reaction (when water reacts with isocyanates to produce carbon dioxide for foaming in polyurethane foam production). BDMA can be adjusted in dosage to control the reaction rate precisely, providing good processability in manufacturing.

Applications:

Polyurethane Foam Production

Rigid Polyurethane Foams: BDMA is extensively used in the production of rigid polyurethane foams. It helps in creating a fine - celled and uniform structure in the foam. For example, in building insulation panels, the use of BDMA ensures that the foam has excellent thermal insulation properties. It can reduce heat transfer, making buildings more energy - efficient. In the production of refrigeration and freezer insulation, BDMA - catalyzed foams provide reliable thermal barriers. The balanced catalytic action of BDMA ensures that the foam has good dimensional stability and high compressive strength, which are crucial for withstanding various mechanical stresses in different applications.

Flexible Polyurethane Foams: Although less common than in rigid foams, BDMA can also be used in flexible polyurethane foam production. It contributes to better cell - opening characteristics, improving the foam's resilience. This makes it suitable for applications in furniture upholstery and automotive seating, where comfort and durability are important.

Polyurethane Coatings and Adhesives

BDMA accelerates the curing process in polyurethane coatings and adhesives. In coatings, this results in faster drying times, allowing for quicker production cycles. For adhesives, it enhances the adhesion strength between different substrates. For instance, in bonding metal to plastic or wood in various industries, BDMA - containing adhesives provide a strong and durable bond. Additionally, it improves the chemical resistance of the coatings and adhesives, making them more suitable for use in harsh environments.

Other Applications

In organic synthesis, BDMA serves as a catalyst for synthesizing dehydro - halogen in organic drugs, an acidic neutralizer, and a corrosion inhibitor. It is also used in the synthesis of quaternary ammonium salts, which are important in the production of cationic surface - active strong fungicides. In the epoxy resin field, BDMA promotes the curing of acid anhydride, polyamide, and fatty - amine - based curing systems. It is widely used in epoxy resin electronic potting materials, encapsulating materials, epoxy floor coatings, and marine paints as a curing accelerator.

Our BDMA product is of high purity, ensuring reliable and consistent catalytic performance in all these applications. With strict quality control measures in place, we guarantee that our BDMA meets the highest industry standards, helping our customers produce high - quality polyurethane - based products.
